A Laguna Beach physician was killed after he was struck by a vehicle driven by another doctor while crossing Sepulveda Boulevard on foot near the Los Angeles International Airport entrance Wednesday night, September 2nd, police said.

Dr. David Richard Burrus, 59, was outside the crosswalk in a northbound lane on Sepulveda Boulevard at Century Boulevard at 10:08 p.m. when he was hit by a Mercedes, said Lt. Roger Deranian of the Los Angeles Police Department West Traffic division.

The driver of the vehicle, who was identified as a 66-year-old local doctor, stopped following the collision to help render aid, Deranian said. Burrus was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, he said.

The driver was not impaired at the time of the accident and was not cited, Deranian said.

Burrus reportedly had a medical practice in Minnesota, he said. While no ticket was found, police discovered that he had a receipt for a nearby parking structure and may have been returning from the airport, Deranian said.
