The Santa Monica Rugby Club Dolphins’ under-12 boys team capped off an undefeated regular season with a 19-8 victory over Belmont Shore Saturday, March 7th.

Center Eddie Brown scored twice, Daniel Collins added another score and Kieran Kerwin had two conversions in the win, which clinched the top seed in the SCRFU North conference.

Santa Monica ended the regular season with a 5-0 record as the team heads into the championship round in San Diego.

“We’ve been working on the fundamentals all season and the boys really put it together today,” said Santa Monica Rugby Club coach Greg Anderson. “We look forward to facing the other top teams in Southern California this weekend.”

In other results, the under-14 boys team suffered a tough 45-0 loss to Belmont Shore.

“Belmont is a very well-skilled team,” said coach Charlie Lydon. “They’ve got a lot of second-year players and we learned a lot from them. I was happy with our boys’ performance today regardless of the score.”

The under-14 boys will continue their season through April and have compiled a record of 3-2-1.

The Rugby Club’s under-19 girls rebounded from a defeat earlier this month in Antelope Valley with a 20-15 win at home over Hart District. Tries were scored by Janesse Bacon, Kadijah Wilson, Alex Walker and Meghan Laner. The Dolphin girls upped their record to 4-3 with three matches left to play in the regular season.
