A Notice of Preparation of a draft environmental impact report (EIR) for the Reconfiguration Project at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Tom Bradley International Terminal has been released for public review and comment by Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the agency that operates the city’s airports.

A public scoping meeting to discuss the draft EIR Notice of Preparation is scheduled from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 14th, at the Flight Path Learning Center, 6661 W. Imperial Highway, Westchester.

The proposed project provides for certain improvements identified in the approved LAX Master Plan, specifically related to development of new aircraft gates at the Tom Bradley Terminal. The new gates will support the airport’s ability to effectively and efficiently accommodate new large aircraft, such as the Airbus A380, Boeing 747 and Boeing 747-8, airport officials said.

In addition, the project calls for substantial improvements related to the concourses and central core area of the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

Among the key elements of the Bradley terminal project, according to airport officials, are:

— construction of new north and south concourses at the terminal, west of the existing concourses, which would be removed;

— construction of nine aircraft gates and associated loading bridges and apron areas, along the west side of the new terminal concourses;

— relocation and consolidation of existing aircraft gates along the east side of the Tom Bradley Terminal;

— renovation and enlargement of the existing U.S. Customs and Border Protection areas within the central core of the terminal;

— construction of secure passenger corridors between Terminals 3 and 4, and the Bradley Terminal; and

— relocation of existing Taxiways S and Q to the west.

Potentially significant environmental effects that may result from the proposed project include traffic, air quality, noise, surface water quality and biological resources, officials said.

The Notice of Preparation is available online at www.ourlax .org/, “Tom Bradley International Terminal Reconfiguration Project,” and will be posted in the Office of the Los Angeles City Clerk. For more information or to request a copy, (310) 646-7614.

Responses to the Notice of Preparation should be received no later than Wednesday, January 28th. Responses should be sent to Dennis Quilliam, city planner, Los Angeles World Airports, 7301 World Way West, Third Floor, Los Angeles 90045.
