A 26-year-old Santa Monica man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after he allegedly crashed a Lamborghini into five parked vehicles on San Vicente Boulevard in Santa Monica early Thursday, March 1st, police said.

David August Johnson was driving a 2004 silver Lamborghini Murcielago westbound in the 100 block of San Vicente Boulevard, near Ocean Avenue, in Santa Monica at about 2:30 a.m., when he lost control of the sports car and crashed into five vehicles that were parked on the street, Santa Monica police Lt. Alex Padilla alleged.

Johnson was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, Padilla said. A male passenger in the Lamborghini was also taken to a local hospital but was not injured, he said.

No other injuries were reported.

Police booked Johnson with driving under the influence of alcohol after a test of his blood alcohol level measured .34, Padilla alleged. The legal limit in California is .08.

Witnesses told police that they had seen the Lamborghini driving up and down San Vicente prior to the accident, Padilla said.

One witness estimated the vehicle’s speed at about 75 miles per hour, he said.

The Lamborghini, which is valued at about $275,000, sustained major front-end damage in the crash, Padilla said.

Two of the five parked vehicles that were struck in the crash received major damage, two of the vehicles sustained moderate damage and one had minor damage from the crash, he said.

Padilla said police were investigating Johnson’s whereabouts before the crash occurred.
