Los Angeles police are searching for a driver who ran down a jogger on Thursday near Loyola Marymount University and then fled the crash on foot.

The jogger, thought to be a man in his 60s, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, Los Angeles police officer Bruce Borihanh said.

The crash occurred at about 4:15 a.m. near the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and LMU Drive.

The driver, believed to be a black woman, was heading south on Lincoln when she ran off the roadway, sheered off a light pole and collided with the man, Borihanh said.

Police have not released the names of the victim or suspect and the investigation remains ongoing, he said. Southbound lanes on Lincoln remained blocked throughout the morning.

Media reports described the vehicle as an older-model sedan.
