The Santa Monica Elks said an anonymous member has made a $500 donation to the Elks National Foundation in recognition of the efforts of Grady Sain and Bob Baldwin in co-chairing the ritual coaching team.

An Elks spokesman said it should be noted that every movement and every word of each of the seven members is graded continuously during the 45-minute coaching performance.

The team won the district competition and was well on its way to placing in the top three in the state, when the exalted ruler, Hank Allen, collapsed as he rose to give the final charge, the Elks spokesman said. This disqualified the team.

The Elks National Foundation is a charitable board of the Elks. The foundation funds children’s functions (Hoop Shoot, soccer shoots, drug awareness, scholarships, handicapped children events, essay contests) and veterans affairs events (trips, dinners, clothing drives, and barbeques).
