The Santa Monica Elks recently hosted a boxers/briefs breakfast in which the price of admission was a new package of men’s or women’s underwear to be donated to Veterans Administration Hospital patients.

Donations of used outerwear are always accepted by the hospital, but hospital policy prohibits used underwear, said Robbie Robinson, chair of the Santa Monica Elks Veterans Affairs Committee.

Thirty packages of men’s underwear, ten packages of women’s underwear and $500 were collected at the breakfast.

The Santa Monica Elks also hosted a dinner Wednesday, November 9th, for 40 hospital patients.

An upcoming project is to make and send Christmas gift boxes for the military stationed overseas.

The project is spearheaded by the American Legion Post 123 in Santa Monica, with the Santa Monica Elks, the Santa Monica Emblem Club, and the Jack Showers Foundation.

Last year, more than 400 gift boxes were sent from Santa Monica and more than 6,000 were sent from Southern California.
