World renowned Brazilian choreographer Rosangela Silvestre and international dance star Kimberly Miguel Mullen will collaborate for the world premiere of the interactive dance duet “Essensibility: A Performance of Essence and Sensibility” Friday through Sunday, November 13th through 15th at the Electric Lodge in Venice.
Silvestre and Mullen will be accompanied by international musicians for the performance. Shows are scheduled at 8 p.m. November 13th and 14th and 6 p.m. November 15th at the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Ave., Venice.
“Essensibility” is an imaginative and inspirational performance that takes audiences on a journey through the African Diaspora, evoking the forces of nature through the interplay of music, song and dance, Silvestre says.
The diverse cast of performers originates from Brazil, Italy and the U.S., and includes live musicians as well.
Master percussionist Mark Lamson of the CD “Bata Ketu” will lead an ensemble of drummers, including Stevie Wonder’s lead drummer, Fausto Cuevas, and Afro-Cuban drummers Luca Brandoli and Joe Addington. Additional music is arranged by film composer Dexter Story.
Produced by Mullen, “Essensibility” is based on the solo work, “Faces of Nature” by Silvestre. This is the first onstage collaboration between the two artists since the April release of Mullen’s latest dance workout DVD by Acacia, “Dance and Be Fit: Lower Body Burn and Abs Burn.”
Mullen has trained with Silvestre and performed her dance choreography since 2004 as a member of Viver Brasil Dance Company.
“Essensibility” is the combined energetic forces of Silvestre, as essence, and Mullen as sensibility, the performers said. The performance concludes with a question and answer session with the performers and audience members.
Tickets are $20 for general admission, and $15 for students with ID, children, and seniors.
