Esther Axelianne Knutson, a former teacher at the Westchester Lutheran Preschool, died Thursday, March 30th, at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be held at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, April 9th, at Westchester Lutheran Church, 7831 Sepulveda Blvd., Westchester.

She was born April 4th, 1914, in North Dakota to Edvard and Axeliane Olson and had two brothers and one sister.

Relatives raised the siblings after Axeliane Olson died in 1916 and Edvard Olson was unable to work and care for four children himself.

At age 16, Knutson went to work for her uncle at his farm. She was a cook for the farm’s thrashing crews.

She met Knute Knutson and they married on November 17th, 1934.

They had six children in addition to three sons who died at birth and one daughter who died at the age of five months.

After her husband died in November 1972, Knutson worked for the Westchester Lutheran Preschool for 15 years.

She loved babies and children, singing, dancing, crocheting, gardening, baking, the color purple, anything sparkly, high heels, and things that went fast.

She is survived by six children, 15 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great-grandchildren, and other many relatives and friends.
