“Found,” an exhibition of works by six Los Angeles-based mixed-media/collage artists, will be on display at the Arena 1 gallery in Santa Monica beginning Saturday, March 20th through April 24th.
The exhibition, which opens in conjunction with the Fourth Annual Santa Monica Airport Art Walk, will begin with a reception from 1 to 6 p.m., followed by an artists’ panel discussion from 3:30 to 4 p.m. at the gallery, 3026 Airport Ave., Santa Monica. Curated by Sandra Vista, “Found”
celebrates creativity in the act of recycling.
As part of the concept for the exhibition, participating artists were invited to make field trips to salvage yards throughout Los Angeles County as a way of expanding on the possibilities for finding material to integrate with their own respective styles, an exhibit spokesperson said.
The experience allowed the artists to learn about each other’s techniques and practices and identify materials for each other at the salvage yards, the spokesperson said.
Featured artists are Vista, June Diamond, Carolyn Vosburgh, Paul Guillemette, Steve Schmidt, and Baby Smith.
Arena 1 gallery is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Information, (310) 397-7456, or www.santamonicaartstudios.com/.
