The Schomburg Gallery in Santa Monica will present an exhibition of 40 serigraphic prints from 2009-10 by artist David Thompson in Passing Through, beginning May 22nd and continuing through June 26th.
The opening reception is from 5 to 7 p.m. May 22nd at the Schomburg Gallery at Bergamot Station, 2525 Michigan Ave. E3A, Santa Monica. Gallery hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and by appointment. Admission is free.
“Passing Through focuses on the passage of light through matter and of matter through light,” an exhibit spokesperson says. The prints that convey the passage of light through matter aim to explore variations on the theme of refection with light passing through and being obstructed by matter such as glass or water, the spokesperson explains.
The result, in principle, is an image reflecting a “simultaneity of foreground, middle and background.”
Thompson, who lives and works in Southern California, has been printing since 1969 when he began producing a serigraphic poster for the Georgetown University orchestra. He is also a member of the Washington Printmakers Gallery in Silver Spring, Maryland.
