Local purveyors of the sounds and styles of the 1910s, 1920s and 1930s are banding together for a special concert to pay for the restoration of their beloved vaudeville-era piano.

Fall Frolic, a vaudevillian concert of ragtime, old-time vocal/piano jazz, dancing and dramatics, has been organized to pay for the refurbishment of the 1921 Haynes cabinet grand upright piano that sits in the Unurban Coffee House in Santa Monica.

The music starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 17th, at the Unurban, 3301 Pico Blvd., Santa Monica. A $15 donation is requested.

Venice pianist/composer/musicologist Brad Kay (who performs both solo and with Janet Klein and Her Parlor Boys) has been hosting Sunday afternoon ragtime performances for the past three years at the Unurban and has invited the regulars, as well as a lot of special guests out for a Saturday night concert.

Entertainers include Mews Small, Marea Boylan, David Barlia, Flo Lawrence, Suzy Williams, Pam Eisenberg, and Sonny “Falcon” Maltese.

Kay will perform with his makeshift orchestra, The Superbatone Pepsters.
