A day to discover all the Marina has to offer both on and off-shore is planned from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 8th, in Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors has organized Discover Marina del Rey Day 2006, a community event featuring games, music, face painting and a children’s marionette show. Attractions including a pumpkin patch and family activities, and inflatable games for children will be set up throughout Burton Chace Park. Admission to Discover Marina del Rey 2006 is free, but wristband passes for the inflatable games are $5.

Displays and demonstrations will be provided by county health and environmental agencies, and there will be safety displays by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, Fire Department Lifeguard Operations Division and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Live Latin jazz will be performed by AC Timba Jazz Project, sponsored by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission. Bob Baker Marionettes will perform, and a live simulated helicopter rescue will be executed by the U.S. Coast Guard and Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and Sally Sarlot of Beach Art will host arts and craft workshops that promote healthy living and eating. A Los Angeles County Department of Beaches and Harbors youth program will offer leisure kayaking in the main channel for ages six and up.

Parking is available nearby in County Lot 4 adjacent to the park and County Lot 5 on Bali Way for $5.
