Marina del Rey area artist Grace Swanson is showing her watercolor and acrylic paintings in the exhibit Favorites at Santa Monica’s TAG Gallery through Saturday, March 27th.

The exhibit, which began Tuesday, March 2nd, features paintings that are drawn from one of Swanson’s favorite subjects — the still-life portrait, according to a gallery spokesperson. A reception for the artist is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 6th at the Bergamot Station gallery, 2525 Michigan Ave., Building D3, Santa Monica.

A Mar Vista native, Swanson amplifies her floral arrangements with heightened color, contrasting shadow, and dynamic scale to express the personality, beauty, and even the mood of the object, the gallery spokesperson said.

One such painting is “Tulips,” which was exhibited at the 2005 Watercolor USA Exhibition at the Springfield Museum of Art in Springfield, Missouri. “Tulips” depicts a bouquet of deep-pink tulips, and the painting also received jurors’ first place honors in both the “Time and Motion” competition at VIVA Gallery in Sherman Oaks, and the Juried Open Exhibition at Topanga Canyon Gallery.

“Since a juror’s choice for awards and inclusion into an exhibit is subjective, I consider my accepted paintings as among the jurors’ favorites,” the artist said.

After receiving a degree in studio arts from Loyola Marymount University, Swanson continued her education by obtaining a second degree in art history from LMU while developing her painting career.

Swanson will also be featured in two upcoming publications, The Artistic Touch 4 and Best of America Watermedia Artists Volume.

TAG Gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Information, (310) 829-9556, or
