Los Angeles Airport Police Assistant Chief Ethel McGuire and Capts. LaPonda Fitchpatrick, Carolyn Smith and LaTasha Wells-Amerson have been honored as Outstanding African-American Women in Law Enforcement.

The Airport Police officials were recognized at the National Black Police Association’s (NBPA) 2011 Fall Western Region Training and Education Conference in Los Angeles Nov. 3.

“You should all take pride in knowing that it was your own commitment, contribution and self-sacrifice to the profession of service that you are being rewarded for. The contribution and impact you have made to airport security will always be recognized,” Airport Police Chief George Centeno told his command officers.

Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey added, “This is wonderful news and well deserved recognition. I am personally delighted for each of you, and professionally proud that LAWA has the good fortune of your collective service.”
