For its 19th anniversary event, the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival will return for the third consecutive year to the Electric Lodge in Venice, beginning Thursday, March 22.
Since its inception, the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival has presented over 400 works by multicultural women from around the globe in the disciplines of theater, dance, music, performance poetry, performance art and storytelling. The women represent a wide range of ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds, event organizers note.
Performers from around the U.S. and throughout the world will unite for this year’s festival, which has the theme “Shine!” for its 19th year.
The festival kicks off on March 22 with the traditional champagne gala and awards ceremony at the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Ave., Venice. This year’s theme for the evening is “A Night Divine,” honoring exceptional women who have made laudable contributions in theater.
Following the reception at 7 p.m., the festivities continue at 8 p.m. with the presentation of the Eternity, Rainbow, Integrity, and Maverick Awards to Ivonne Coll, Michelle Danner, Denise Nicholas and Aliah Whitmore, respectively.
The festival will continue with performances scheduled at 8 p.m. Friday, March 23; 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 24; and 3 and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 25.
The Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival was founded by Executive Producer Adilah Barnes and Miriam Reed. This year’s managing producer is Shyla La’Sha.
