The Santa Monica Fire Department is offering disaster assistance response training to residents and those who work in the city Saturday, September 6th.

The free course is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Santa Monica Fire Department training facility, 2500 Michigan Ave., and is offered several other times during the year.

The one-day course is designed to provide participants with the skills to help improve their preparation in the event of a disaster.

Participants will learn vital emergency actions such as how to shut off gas and water, rescue trapped people, splint a fracture, control bleeding and put out a fire with an extinguisher.

Classes fill up quickly so interested participants are urged to enroll early.
