The Los Angeles City Fire Department will hold grand opening ceremonies for Fire Station No. 5 in Westchester from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24th.
The new fire station is just north of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Emerson Avenue, behind the Westchester-Emerson Adult School.
The complex consists of a 17,129-square-foot station with seven bays and a 7,507-square-foot facility with five bays for apparatus storage and multipurpose use.
As for the old fire station located on Manchester Avenue, fire officials hope to keep it open for storage of extra equipment or to house the Fire Prevention Bureau, which promotes fire safety and investigates fire hazards.
Opening ceremonies, which are free and open to the public, will feature entertainment, kids’ activities, and exhibit booths. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is scheduled to attend.
