The Westchester High School Comets scored a touchdown in the final two seconds to earn their first Western League victory this season with a 27-21 win over visiting Palisades High School Friday, November 3rd.

The Comets (3-6, 1-3) narrowly trailed 14-13 heading into the fourth quarter but earned the late victory when senior quarterback Isiah Barton threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Khallid Muhammad.

Running back Darren Starks scored on a 53-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to put the Comets behind 7-6 at halftime.

Barton, who finished eight-of-14 passing for 124 yards, added the next two Comet touchdowns on runs of six yards and one yard.

Muhammad finished with four receptions for 102 yards in the game.

Westchester, which is in fifth place in the league, will finish off league play against host Fairfax High School at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 9th.

The St. Bernard High School Vikings secured a spot in the Southern Section playoffs for the first time in three years with a narrow 27-26 Del Rey League victory over visiting Cathedral High School Friday, November 3rd.

The Vikings (3-6, 3-1) lost their first six games of the season but have picked up three consecutive victories in league play to clinch a spot in the playoffs — one of their primary preseason goals.

The team, which trailed Cathedral 12-7 at halftime, earned the victory after the Phantoms failed in a two-point conversion attempt in the final seconds of the game.

Junior quarterback Ryan Simpson had 13 carries for 124 yards rushing and one touchdown. Running back Adam Long finished with 11 carries for 117 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

St. Bernard will finish league play against host Serra High School at 7 p.m. Friday, November 10th.

Santa Monica High School took another step toward the playoffs with a 27-7 Ocean League victory over host Inglewood High School Friday, November 3rd.

Despite being scoreless after halftime, the Vikings (5-4, 2-2) secured the victory by scoring two touchdowns in both the first and second quarter.

Junior quarterback Ryan Katz, who finished nine-of-16 passing for 215 yards, led the Santa Monica offense with touchdown runs of one and two yards and a 32-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver George Allen.

Senior running back Louis Adeyemi had 24 carries for 197 yards rushing and one touchdown.

The Vikings will close out league play against visiting Hawthorne High School at 7 p.m. Friday, November 10th.

The St. Monica High School Mariners remain winless this season after a 48-0 Camino Real League loss to visiting Verbum Dei High School Saturday, November 4th.

The Mariners (0-9, 0-3) will finish the season in a league game against host La Salle High School at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 10th.
