Sam Tenney, a former Santa Monica College (SMC) student and photographer with the student newspaper Corsair, has been named runner-up in the ìCollege Photographer of the Yearî competition by the Press Photographers Association of Greater Los Angeles.

The honor came with a $500 award.

The winner of College Photographer of the Year was USC student Ed Ou.

Tenney, who already has a bachelorís degree in film production, was a student photographer with the Corsair in the spring and fall semesters of 2006.

For the contest, he submitted photographs taken while at the Corsair, though not all were published in the SMC student newspaper.

Tenney, 26, is currently serving as an intern at The Palo Alto Weekly and lives in Union City, which is in the San Francisco Bay area.

This summer, he will be doing an internship at The Modesto Bee.
