The Windward Plaza in Venice will host a free all-day music event and art show during the sixth annual Venice Beach Music Fest Saturday, Aug. 13.
The festival aims to celebrate the creative spirit of Venice by creating a venue for local musicians, dancers, poets. and artists. The festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the west end of Windward Avenue in Venice.
In addition to a full day of music performances, a large art show will feature Venice artists displaying original sculpture, photographs, and paintings. Dancers will perform between bands’ sets in the morning and early afternoon.
The musical entertainment will reflect a diverse range of styles, including folk, heavy metal, bluegrass, drumming, acoustic, experimental, and rock and roll, event organizers said. The line-up of performers will include: Street Smart, The Broken Numbers Band, Concepto Tambor, Djinn, Grapes & Nuts, Michael Jost and Friends, Trevor Menear, and Damaged Kids, as well as some special guest performers.
Bellydance performances will be put on by American Tribal Style (ATS) Bellydance and Drums, representing a costumed dance, and Ya Harissa Bellydance Theater, performing in the folkloric style between musical sets in the late morning and early afternoon.
Artists displaying works in the art show include Michael R. Oddo, SKY, Jean Paul, David Hinnebusch, Richard Yaker, Martha C Wilson, Ra Ra SuperStar, Joe Reese, Juan Carlos, Joel Harris, and the Infusion Project.
The Organic Oasis food truck will also be on site selling smoothies and other treats. The event is backed by the Venice Chamber of Commerce.
