The Fifth Annual Venice Barbeque and Picnic will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 16 at the Oakwood Recreation Center, 767 California Ave., Venice.

The free event is open to the public and features food and barbeque prepared by Venetians and local firefighters.

Festivities include live music and a prize competition for the best barbeque, sides, and desserts.

Special activities will also be featured for kids.

Firefighters from Los Angeles Fire Station 63 in Venice will barbeque meat and chicken on their MOAB (Mother Of All BBQs) grill.

Community members are encouraged to bring their own offerings such as a pie, cake, cookies, salad, biscuits, or their own specialty for meat, poultry and pork. Visitors can enter their dishes into the judging competition for a chance to win a prize.

Contest dishes should be entered by 2:30 p.m., when the judging is scheduled to begin. Home grilled items will be judged first, and the side dish and dessert judging will immediately follow.

The contest winners will receive prizes collected by the BBQ team from some Venice and area businesses.
