The county of Los Angeles Department of Public Works will hold an event in Marina del Rey Saturday, Feb. 25 where residents can dispose of household hazardous waste for free.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dock 52 parking lot on Fiji Way in Marina del Rey.
Residents will have the opportunity to safely discard household hazardous waste such as antifreeze, unused pharmaceuticals, car batteries, used motor oil and paint; home-generated sharps waste such as hypodermic needles, pen needles, and syringes; universal waste including household batteries and fluorescent light bulbs; as well as electronic waste such as TVs, computers, VCRs and stereos.
The free drop-off event is presented by the Department of Public Works and the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County, in cooperation with the community of Marina del Rey and the neighboring cities of Culver City, El Segundo, Inglewood, and Los Angeles.
The Department of Public Works and Sanitation Districts conduct more than 50 free household hazardous waste and e-waste roundups annually throughout the county. County officials note that because hazardous waste can pollute the environment, it is illegal to discard these items in trashcans, sinks and storm drains.
The waste round-ups are intended to promote public awareness of proper disposal practices of household hazardous and e-waste and to provide a convenient, free disposal option.
