The annual free Marina del Rey Summer Concerts will return to Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey beginning Thursday, July 7.

The Thursday evening classical concerts series features world class artists appearing with the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony, conducted by its Musical Director Frank Fetta.

On alternate weeks, Saturday evening concerts bring to the Marina internationally famed artists from the worlds of pop and jazz.

The Classical Thursdays series will kick off at 7 p.m. July 7 with a concert featuring the 75-member Marina del Rey Summer Symphony, conducted by Fetta, with finalists from the famed Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition presenting “A Night at the Opera” with various arias.

On Thursday, July 21, Naoko Takada will play marimba along with the Marina del Rey Summer Symphony with a medley of songs written by composers Gershwin, Hansen, Puts and Grofe.

The Thursday, Aug. 4 concert will include Lindsay Deutsch appearing as a violin soloist with Fetta and the orchestra, performing Bernstein and Korngold selections.

On Thursday, Aug.18, Claire Huangci will return to Burton Chace Park with her renditions of Ravel, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev favorites.

The host of the classical series is popular radio personality Rich Capparela of KUSC-Classical FM 91.5.

The Pop Saturdays series will open July 16 with the smooth sounds of Oleta Adams in her debut performance at Burton Chace Park.

On July 30, Tito Puente, Jr., son of the late percussion and Latin jazz musician Tito Puente, will bring his Afro-Cuban rhythms to the stage in a tribute to his father.

Puente, Jr. will be followed on Aug. 13 by singer/songwriter Aimee Mann, playing her hit songs on acoustic guitar.

The 2011 Marina del Rey Summer Concerts season will conclude Saturday, Aug. 27 with movie star and legendary recording sensation Frankie Avalon singing his classic hits.

Sponsors of the Marina del Rey Summer Concerts are county Supervisor Don Knabe; the county Department of Beaches and Harbors; Yamaha Pianos; the Ritz-Carlton Marina del Rey; and KUSC Classical FM 91.5.

Concertgoers can take the WaterBus from seven Marina locations directly to and from the concert site, or catch the land-based Beach Shuttle, which will operate with special hours to and from Burton Chace Park on concert nights. Parking is available at county lots # 4 and # 77 on Mindanao Way or lot # 5 on Bali Way.
