Kelly Rose, the education and restoration director for the Friends of Ballona Wetlands, is traveling to Kaizuka, Japan, where she will meet with members of the Citizens Forum for Osaka Bay Renaissance.
The Citizens Forum is sponsoring Rose’s trip. The idea for the trip originated in 2003.
One of the founders of the Citizens Forum, who is an environmentalist advocating for the cleanup of the Kogigawa River, which empties into Osaka Bay, visited Culver City and toured the Ballona Wetlands.
Culver City is Kaizuka’s sister city.
The Japanese environmentalist suggested that Ballona environmentalists share ideas and information with the Citizens Forum and found grant money to fly Rose to Kaizuka.
Traveling with Rose is Haan-Fawn Chau of Santa Monica-based Heal the Bay.
Rose and Chau will spend a few days sightseeing in Osaka Bay and will share Japanese environmental ideas with Heal the Bay and Friends of the Ballona Wetlands upon their return.
