A holiday fundraiser featuring items hand-made by women throughout the world will be held at Broadway Gymnastics School, 5433 Beethoven St. in Del Rey, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, December 17th and 18th. The public is invited.

Twenty percent of the proceeds will go to the Broadway Gymnastic Foundation.

Products featured will be from Up From The Dust, which brings handmade products made by women in developing countries to the U.S. marketplace.

The purchase of these products, including jewelry, purses, and home decor from women entrepreneurs in Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Guatemala, Egypt, Cambodia, Afghanistan, India, Palestine and China, helps support and economically empower women around the world, said a Broadway Gymnastics School spokesman.

Formed in 1982, the Broadway Gymnastic Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that raises money to offer opportunities in gymnastics for young people who are financially or developmentally disadvantaged.

“We are thrilled that Up From The Dust is designating us as a beneficiary for this holiday sale,” said Mary Cates, co-owner of Broadway Gymnastics. “The missions of these two organizations are a perfect fit at this time of year and it gives people an opportunity to shop the world and make socially conscious buying decisions.”

Mary Schnack, founder of Up From The Dust, added, “This is even more than a typical win-win, as the purchases help sustain disadvantaged women and children in developing countries while the Broadway Gymnastic Foundation helps disadvantaged youth in the local community.”

All items for sale are made by hand and, ranging from $5 to $500, include a variety of jewelry such as pearl necklaces, shell earrings, glass bead bracelets, purses, grass place mats, embroidered table runners and woven shawls and scarves.

Other major Broadway Gymnastic Foundation fundraisers have included the Peter Vidmar Men’s Gymnastics Invitational, Cartwheel-A-Thon and Olympic Dream Classic Girls Invitational.
