Short Avenue Elementary School in Mar Vista will host a pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 1st, to raise money for installing new playground equipment and planting new trees. The school is at 12814 Maxella Ave., Mar Vista. Tickets are $4 per person.

All proceeds will benefit the beautification efforts at the school. Friends of Short Avenue, and the school’s Parent Teacher Association are sponsoring the breakfast.

The Douglas Foundation, established by actor Kirk Douglas and his wife, Anne, awarded the school a matching grant for new kindergarten playground equipment.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power also donated 93 trees.

However, the school needs funds to install the playground equipment and plant the trees.

“In order to have the playground equipment installed with mats and to have the trees planted with cut-outs in the asphalt, we need to raise about $12,000,” said Amy Friedberg, Friends of Short Avenue president.
