The former owners and managers of a high-end custom furniture store in Santa Monica have been charged with misdemeanors in a five-count complaint by the Santa Monica City Attorney’s Office.

The complaint charges Arman Hazarian, former owner of Cozi Couch, and three store managers, Cory Iturribarria, Nelson Freytes and Jaime Seoane, with grand theft, false advertising and doing business without a city business license, Santa Monica Deputy City Attorney Adam Radinsky said.

Cozi Couch also has locations in Los Angeles but the Santa Monica store, located at Seventh Street and Wilshire Boulevard, went out of business in March, Radinsky noted.

Several dozen former customers of the furniture store had filed complaints with the city attorney’s Consumer Protection Unit, with many claiming in Small Claims Court cases that they paid thousands of dollars for custom furniture items that were never delivered, Radinsky said.

The Consumer Protection Unit investigated the company and its owners in conjunction with the state Bureau of Home Furnishings and the Santa Monica Police Department, Radinsky said.

The four defendants were scheduled to be arraigned October 14th at the Los Angeles Superior Court Airport Courthouse.
