The Big Blue Bus has rolled out its fully wrapped holiday bus.
The festively designed bus will stay in service throughout the holiday season and will take a different route each day to ensure that as many people as possible get a chance to see it — and ride on it — during the holiday season.
This year’s new design features large decorated gingerbread people peering out of the windows of a gingerbread house, playing the saxophone, trumpet, clarinet and other jazz instruments.
The top of the bus is covered with a layer of “snow” and dollops of blue frosting rim all the windows and wheels.
“Our employees love this time of the year and the holiday bus always gives us the perfect chance to put smiles on people’s faces and encourage holiday cheer,” said Big Blue Bus Customer Relations manager Dan Dawson. “This year’s design is so much fun that we think everyone’s really going to love it. It’s our way of saying Happy Holidays.”
The 40-foot-long clean-fuel bus has become a traditional start of the holiday season in Santa Monica and other parts of Los Angeles. This year’s holiday bus is being sponsored by KJZZ-FM.
The special bus will be the official transportation to various holiday open houses, special events and galas happening around the city this season.
The Big Blue Bus operates more than 200 energy-efficient vehicles across a nearly 52-square-mile area, including Santa Monica, Culver City, Downtown Los Angeles, Brentwood, Mar Vista, Marina del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Palms, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, Venice, Cheviot Hills, Rancho Park, Century City, Westchester and Westwood.
Its fleet carries over 80,000 passengers each day to hundreds of destinations around the Los Angeles area, has a 97 percent on-time performance record and has won numerous awards for its customer service, safety and efficiency, according to officials.
