The Neighborhood Youth Association will give landscape designer Jay Griffith its Community Service Award on Friday, March 7th, during the annual Scholarship Dinner.

Griffith is being honored for his many years of support for the Las Doradas Children’s Center in Venice.

The Children’s Center is a licensed child-care facility that provides full-time education-based day care to low-income working families.

Griffith has been involved for more than 15 years, helping to get the facility built and landscaped and continuing his support since its establishment in the Oakwood neighborhood in Venice.

Griffith also founded the Venice Garden Tour 15 years ago, to garner funding for the center.

The tour this year is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 8th, and is a major ongoing support source for the Children’s Center.

The original idea was to offer the public a tour of a few unique private gardens in Venice and it has grown annually, with approximately 1,500 visitors and 30 showcased gardens.

Griffith and his Venice-based company, Jay Griffith Landscapes, have designed gardens in Venice, Santa Monica and throughout California and the world. He is known for his originality, creative design solutions and the usage of native plants.

The Neighborhood Youth Association will begin the March 7th festivities at 6:30 p.m. at the Riviera Country Club in the Pacific Palisades.

The association is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, although it is not a religious organization.
