A large Ferris wheel could join the wide range of attractions on the Venice Beach Boardwalk.

The Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks hosted a community meeting in Venice March 5 to discuss a plan for a temporary structure called the “Great Observation Wheel” on the boardwalk near Windward Avenue.

Observation wheel operator Great City Attractions is proposing to install the nearly 200-foot-high temporary structure, which would sit atop an existing concrete slab, to offer 360-degree panoramic views of the coastal area.

The company says the wheel, which runs on electricity, could be installed and removed in about a week.

Great City Attractions has constructed seven giant wheels ranging in height from 40 to 165 meters in cities across the world, including Paris and Singapore.

Some Venice residents say while the Ferris wheel would offer great views, they are concerned about the impacts such an attraction would have on an already limited parking demand near the boardwalk and traffic.
