What is billed as the Los Angeles areaís only sustainable “green” garden tour takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 28th.

The Third Annual Santa Monica Green Gardens Tour highlights nine home gardens which demonstrate sustainably beautiful designs, practices and technologies.

This yearís tour introduces the Green Sourcebook, a free compendium of garden information, ideas and suggestions that will become the interested gardenerís “green” companion.

This yearís theme, “The Value of Trees,” emphasizes the tourís motto, “Sustainable is Attainable!”

Tickets may be purchased beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the day of the tour at the tourís start garden, 301 Marguerita Ave. in Santa Monica.

The single ticket price on the day of the tour is $40.

Advance tickets and other information are available from the Virginia Avenue Project, the tourís beneficiary.

Advance tickets are $30, $25 for seniors and $25 each for any group of four or more persons.

Members of registered gardening and environmental groups will also receive a discounted $25 ticket price for their members.

There is also a guided van tour of the gardens for $60, offering a visit to each garden, led by Marilee Kuhlmann, the founder of the Green Gardens Tour.

The van tour begins at 9:30 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. Advance reservations are required for the van tour and all tickets are subject to availability.

The tourís proceeds support the Virginia Avenue Project, a Santa Monica charity which offers free performing arts and tutoring programs that nurture children growing up under difficult circumstances.
