The 13.1 Marathon-Los Angeles will start and end in Venice with a Hollywood-themed race Sunday, Jan. 16.
In conjunction with the half marathon, the Karhu 5K, a division of the 13.1 Marathon, will challenge racers to “Beat the Bear.” Any runner who crosses the 5K finish line before the Karhu bear will be presented with a ticket good for a free pair of Karhu running shoes of their choice from the Top to Top specialty run store.
The Karhu 5K has the same start and finish line as the 13.1 Marathon – beginning on the Venice Boardwalk and ending at the Windward Circle in Venice.
Course entertainment will include fire dancers, Tokyo drummers, live bands, local cheer squads and volunteer groups. Racers will be greeted at the start and finish lines by Hollywood impersonators and iconic Venice Beach performers like Harry Perry, the roller skating and guitar playing personality who will also be running the half marathon.
A variety of food trucks will offer food selections near the finish line.
Suitable for both first-timers and marathoners in training, the 13.1 Marathon will offer a closed course with fully supported aid stations and medals for all finishers. Participants and spectators are encouraged to wear costumes and enjoy a festive race atmosphere.
The half marathon is scheduled to begin at 7:13 a.m. Jan. 16 on the Venice Boardwalk at Ocean Front Walk and Rose Avenue. The walker-friendly course will remain open for 3 hours and 30 minutes, a 16-minute per mile pace. This
