The Santa Monica Museum of Art will present the “Halla Gala” from 7 to 11 p.m. on Halloween, an evening of fantasy, fashion and fun to benefit the museum.
Visitors are encouraged to come in costume to mingle with fashion luminaries and other costumed party-goers. The honorary gala hosts are Leonard and Susan Nimoy.
The event features special exhibitions, a surrealist photo booth, Frederico Fellini-esque movies, the Magic Carpet walk-off, music, flowing libations and culinary delights. Costume, headdress, or mask required.
A variety of ticket packages are available, ranging from $350 to $25,000. Featured benefits include your “secret self” immortalized in a private session with noted photographer Leonard Nimoy; a custom creation by acclaimed fashion designers Brett Westfall/Unholy Matrimony/ Commes des GarÁons, Brian Lichtenberg, Edith Palm, Jenni Kayne, Pamela Barish, Scout, Society for Rational Dress, and The Row; and limited-edition portrait prints, Butch by Barkley L. Hendricks and Lovely Six Foota by Mickalene Thomas;
The premiere package includes luxury Halloween night accommodations at the Viceroy Santa Monica.
Selected works from Secret Selves, Nimoy’s upcoming exhibition at MASS MoCA (opens July 31st, 2010) will be on view, as will the Museum of Art’s current exhibition Allen Ruppersberg: You and Me or The Art of Give and Take. Artist Miriam Wosk will create the aesthetic for the gala with her fantastical and alluring installations, and DJ Eddie Ruscha will provide the sounds.
The Halla Gala will raise critical funds for the museum’s exhibitions and programs.
