The American Red Cross Santa Monica chapter will hold its second annual “Golf Ball Drop” Monday, July 28th, to help raise funds for the chapter.

The event is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. at the MountainGate Country Club, 12445 MountainGate Drive, Los Angeles.

The Golf Ball Drop fundraiser involves as many as 2,000 red-numbered golf balls that will be loaded into and then dropped from a Helinet helicopter onto the golf course at MountainGate. Members of the public donated $20 for each numbered ball.

The holder of the numbered ball that comes closest to the pin (or into the hole) on the course will win a 50-inch plasma, flat screen, high definition, digital TV valued at $2,500 from Carlson’s TV and Appliance in Santa Monica.

The Santa Monica Red Cross chapter plans to host a continental breakfast for donors, friends and members of the press during the event.

Guests attending the complimentary breakfast are asked to wear a red clothing item to show their support for the American Red Cross. The chapter’s 2008 annual meeting is scheduled to follow the “drop” at 9:15 a.m.

Money raised through the Golf Ball Drop supports the charitable activities of the American Red Cross of Santa Monica, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to health and safety education, youth services, blood services, CPR and first aid training, disaster awareness and disaster relief efforts.
