The Westchester High School Comets were defeated 17-8 by host Fairfax High School in a Western League game Thursday, October 30th.
After Fairfax scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead, Westchester’s Frederick Johnson scored a touchdown on a one-yard run early in the second half to cut the deficit to 14-8. But Fairfax held on and added a 22-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Johnson finished with 14 carries for 70 yards rushing and Andre Buford finished with ten carries for 78 yards rushing for the Comets (2-6, 1-2).
Westchester will next host Hamilton High School in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, November 7th.
The Santa Monica High School Vikings were leading as they entered the fourth quarter but visiting Culver City High School fought back in the period to take a 35-28 Ocean League victory Friday, October 31st.
After opening the season with six consecutive victories, the Vikings (6-2, 1-2) have now lost two league victories and will need to close out the regular season with wins to have a chance for a playoff berth.
Santa Monica held a 21-7 lead at halftime over Culver City and added another score on a 24-yard run by Christian Ross in the third quarter. But Culver City picked up three touchdowns in the final quarter to surge to victory.
Santa Monica will next face host Inglewood High School in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, November 7th.
The host St. Bernard High School Vikings were shut out 56-0 by undefeated Serra High School in a Del Rey League game Friday, October 31st.
It was the fifth consecutive loss for the Vikings (1-7, 0-3), who trailed 42-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Malcolm Mitchell finished six-of-23 passing for 107 yards for St. Bernard.
The Vikings will next play at Bosco Tech High in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, November 7th.
The St. Monica High School Mariners scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter but it was too late to overcome the deficit in a 21-7 loss to host St. Anthony High School in a Santa Fe League game Friday, October 31st.
After St. Anthony took a 14-0 lead into the fourth quarter, St. Monica running back Hector Santiesteban gave the Mariners their only touchdown of the game.
The running back led the Mariners with 27 carries for 147 yards rushing in the game. Quarterback Joe Giesregen completed seven-of-18 passes for 103 yards.
The Mariners (0-8, 0-3) will try to avoid another winless season in a league game against host Salesian High at 7 p.m. Friday, November 14th.
