Having returned to where they are comfortable, — the Western League — the Venice High School Gondoliers picked up their first victory of the season with a dominating 42-7 win over host Hamilton High School in the league opener Friday, October 17th.

After losing some key players from last season to graduation, the Gondoliers (1-5) have struggled early this season. But they are looking to turn things around in the Western League, where Venice has either shared or earned the outright league title the past few seasons.

The Gondoliers will next play at host University High School in a league game at 3 p.m. Friday, October 24th.

Running back Fredrick Johnson scored two touchdowns to help lead the visiting Westchester High School Comets to a 20-0 shutout victory over University High School in the Western League opener Friday, October 17th.

It was the first victory in five games for the Comets (2-4), who opened the season with a win over Manual Arts.

Johnson finished with 11 carries for 91 yards rushing, including touchdown runs of 26 and four yards. Quarterback Herman Evans finished three-of-four for 65 yards passing and Christopher Jacobs added 64 yards passing for Westchester.

The Comets will next face visiting Palisades High in a league game at 3 p.m. Friday, October 24th.

The Santa Monica High School Vikings picked up where they left off in non-league play at the Ocean League opener, grabbing a 51-0 blowout victory over host Morningside High School Friday, October 17th.

The victory keeps the Vikings (6-0) undefeated this season.

Santa Monica scored on its first drive of the game when quarterback Garrett Safron connected with Christian Ross, who ran 60 yards for his first of four touchdowns. The Vikings went into halftime with a 34-0 lead.

Santa Monica will next host Beverly Hills High School in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, October 24th.

The St. Bernard High School Vikings were shut out 37-0 by host Harvard-Westlake High in their Del Rey League opener Saturday, October 18th.

It was the third consecutive loss for the Vikings (1-5), who trailed 20-0 at halftime.

Running back Daniel Pipkin led St. Bernard with 12 carries for 80 yards rushing.

The Vikings will next host Cathedral High in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, October 24th.

The St. Monica High School Mariners lost 33-0 to visiting Bellarmine-Jefferson High School in their Santa Fe League opener Friday, October 17th.

The Mariners remain winless this season (0-6). Running back Hector Santiesteban led the Mariners with 155 yards rushing against Bellarmine-Jefferson.

St. Monica will next host St. Genevieve High in a league game at 7 p.m. Saturday, October 25th.
