The Santa Monica High School Vikings opened Ocean League play with authority by capturing a 33-0 shutout of visiting Morningside High School Friday, October 12th.

Playing in their sixth consecutive home game at Santa Monica College Corsair Field, the Vikings (4-2, 1-0) scored on their first possession with a three-yard touchdown run by junior Vince Lawrence.

The Vikings then scored two more touchdowns before halftime, including a 15-yard run by senior quarterback Ryan Katz that was set up by an 81-yard interception return by Jon Dunn, to take a 20-0 lead.

Santa Monica scored a touchdown in both the third and fourth quarter to cruise to the league victory.

Lawrence finished with 11 carries for 82 yards rushing to lead the Vikings, who earned 193 yards on the ground. Katz completed nine-of-17 passes for 162 yards.

Max Monbouquette led the defense for Santa Monica with 20 tackles.

The Vikings will next play their first visiting game of the season against Beverly Hills High in a league game at 7 p.m. Friday, October 19th.

Steven Locke kicked three field goals to help lead the St. Bernard High School Vikings to a 16-13 victory over visiting Harvard-Westlake High School in the Del Rey League opener Friday, October 12th.

The Vikings (3-3, 1-0), who earned a 34-0 victory over Verbum Dei in the previous week, got field goals of 22, 37 and 20 yards from Locke to take the narrow league victory against Harvard-Westlake.

Senior quarterback Ryan Simpson, who finished nine-of-14 passing for 99 yards and added 104 yards rushing in the game, gave the Vikings their only touchdown of the night on a 12-yard run.

Gregory Walker finished with 12 carries for 66 yards rushing for St. Bernard.

The Vikings will next play at Bishop Montgomery High School in a league game at 3:30 p.m. Friday, October 19th.

The St. Monica High School Mariners were shutout 43-0 against Bishop’s of La Jolla in a non-league game Saturday, October 13th.

The Mariners (0-6), who have been held scoreless for five consecutive games, will open Camino Real League play against visiting Cantwell-Sacred Heart High School at 7 p.m. Friday, October 19th.
