PASTA! A Pop-Ups Puppet Musical will be presented at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 26 and 27 at Highways Performance Space, 1651 18th St., Santa Monica.
Pop-Up performers Jacob Stein and Jason Rabinowitz, veteran kids’ rockers, will take the audience through an educational and comic musical adventure through the “magical land of Brooklyn,” an event spokesperson said.
With the audience’s help, the Pop-Ups search for the ingredients to make the best (locally sourced) pasta sauce ever.
According to Highways, the show features a high-energy live act involving live-drawing, dance-beats, colorful puppets, animals, trains, guitar riffs, mermaids, gardens, instruments, vegetables, sparkles and rocking interactive dance numbers.
This colorful and theatrical show is populated with puppets from the puppet shops of Julianna Parr (“Muppet Show,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”) and Ingrid Crepeaux (“Dinosaur Rock”), as well as songs from the Pop Ups’ 2010 album Outside Voices. The album was recently recognized with a National Association of Parenting Publications Award for best music.
