The Del Rey Homeowners and Neighbors Association spring general meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 27th, in the multipurpose room of the Marina del Rey Middle School, 12500 Braddock Drive, Del Rey.

The meeting will feature a panel of experts speaking about local disaster risks, response and preparedness.

Scheduled speakers include a USC professor of earth sciences, Los Angeles City Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Reagan and Disaster Preparedness Unit Captain Jeff Elder, Michelle Riebeling of the city Emergency Preparedness Department and a Los Angeles Police Department Pacific Community senior lead officer.

The event will also include disaster preparedness-related exhibits from the Los Angeles City Department of Water and Power, the Southern California Gas Company, the American Red Cross and the Los Angeles City Fire Department Community Emergency Response Team.

Questions will be taken from the audience following the presentations by panel members.

Del Rey Homeowners and Neighbors Association president Chris Nevil said the forum is the first of its kind in Del Rey in many years.

“April is Earthquake Preparedness Month, so the timing is perfect to focus Del Rey and our neighbors on some very real disaster risks,” Nevil said. “We’ve asked our speakers to focus on earthquake, tsunami and flooding, as they are the most immediate threats to our residents.

“We are excited and grateful to have such a well qualified group of speakers share this critical information with our community.”

Exhibits will be open at 6:30 p.m. A brief association election is scheduled at 7 p.m. and the disaster preparedness panel will begin at 7:15 p.m.

Admission is free.
