Marina Del Rey Hospital recently joined two nonprofit organizations that are providing medical services to children from Afghanistan and an opportunity to frolic on a boat.

Representatives from the hospital accompanied five young Afghan girls who belong to “Solace For The Children” at Burton Chace Park in Marina del Rey July 10.

Solace For The Children provides medical and dental care to children who are in need of such services.

The girls spent the day on a boat courtesy of Life Sail, a non-profit that promotes a character-building experience through sailing and seamanship.

The Afghan guests will be in Los Angeles for six weeks, where they will stay with host families from the Solace For The Children charity.

“We are overjoyed that we are able to welcome these girls into our homes and support them while they receive free medical care,” say Erik and Nicole Svendsen, the founders and one of the host families for the organization’s Los Angeles chapter.
