The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has announced that the Howard Hughes Parkway on-ramp to the northbound 405 freeway in Westchester will be temporarily closed for construction.

Caltrans has closed the on-ramp for the construction of a new auxiliary lane as part of the San Diego Freeway Widening Project between La Tijera Boulevard and Jefferson Boulevard.

It is anticipated that the on-ramp to the northbound freeway will re-open in the spring, Caltrans officials said. Closures are subject to change.

As part of the project, Sepulveda Boulevard will be closed from Centinela Avenue to Green Valley Circle nightly from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday through Friday. It is anticipated that this work will be completed in summer 2014, Caltrans officials said.

Local businesses will remain open throughout the duration of construction.

The suggested detour for the Howard Hughes Parkway on-ramp includes:

Traffic will be diverted onto Sepulveda Boulevard traveling north;

Make a left turn onto Centinela Avenue traveling west;

Make a right turn onto Mesmer Avenue traveling north; and

Make a right turn onto Jefferson Boulevard traveling east onto northbound 405.
