Upward Bound House presented Debra Granfield and Michael Rich with its 2012 Humanitarian Award at the annual Welcome Home Celebration in Culver City Oct. 9.
The Santa Monica-based social service organization works to provide housing for homeless families with children.
According to Upward Bound House, Granfield and Rich were early and strong supporters of the organization.
Granfield served on the agency’s board of directors from 1992-2000 and was the board’s secretary throughout that time. As president and CEO of the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, Rich has provided intellectual capital to support Upward Bound House and its mission, a UBH spokesperson said.
The Humanitarian Award is presented to individuals who demonstrate their commitment to ending family homelessness by providing valuable time and resources to Upward Bound House and encourage community support. Past award winners include Dr. Jane Spiegel and Ruth Leaf (2011), Tom Unterman (2010), Dee Menzies and the Families of Carlthorp School (2008), and UCLA basketball Coach John Wooden (2003).
