The Hyperion Treatment Plant S.A.F.E. (solvents, automotive, flammables and electronics) Center on Imperial Highway at Vista del Mar is temporarily closed due to construction until mid-August, and the public is being asked to take their household hazardous waste and electronic waste to other centers, according to the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works Bureau of Sanitation.
The S.A.F.E. Center closed Monday, May 8th, and is expected to re-open Saturday, August 19th, but the public is asked to call (800) 988-6942 (800-98-TOXIC) to confirm the actual re-opening date, said Bureau of Sanitation officials.
The Bureau of Sanitation is directing the public to take hazardous and electronic waste to two other facilities.
UCLA S.A.F.E. Center at 550 Charles E. Young Drive West, Westwood (take Wilshire Boulevard, go north on Gayley Avenue and follow the drop-off signs).
Hours of operation in Westwood are Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Gaffey Street S.A.F.E. Center, 1400 N. Gaffey St., San Pedro, past Capitol Drive near the Harbor Freeway (I-110).
Hours of operation in San Pedro are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
