The Sixth Annual Los Angeles Improv Dance Festival, billed as a “celebration of male energy in dance,” will be held at the Electric Lodge in Venice Friday through Sunday, January 8th through 10th.
Performances are scheduled at 8:30 p.m. January 8th and 9th, and 4 p.m. January 10th at the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Ave., Venice.
The event is presented by Making Faces Productions with support from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.
The festival features improvisational dance performances mixed with collaboratively generated work and matches up renowned special guest artists with local talent to collaborate on the improvisation, an event spokesperson said.
The focus of this year’s event is to celebrate masculine energy in movement with a mostly male cast, the spokesperson noted. The performer line-up is different for each show.
“The festival is an exploration and celebration of improvisational movement styles and alternative dance techniques, featuring contact improvisation, performance structure, ensemble movement, and integrating sounds, voice, and sets into performance,” festival organizer Jones Welsh said.
Tickets are $20 for general admission and $15 for students and Dance Resource Center members. The January 8th performance is “pay what you can,” according to the lodge.
