Fourteen local artists have joined together to exhibit their art to the public at their homes in the inaugural Del Rey Art Walk from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4.

Visitors can take a self-guided tour of 12 homes in the Del Rey community to view artworks for sale including sculptures, jewelry, photographs, paintings and a variety of mixed media. Participating artists range from prominent working artists to somewhat novices, from young art students to senior citizens. Some of the artists have displayed works of art around the world and have studied both in the United States and other countries.

Artist Charlotte DeMeo, who is exhibiting some of her pieces and helped spearhead the event, said the art walk is intended to inspire interaction among community members.

“I’ve been involved in the community for a lot of years and I’ve always looked for something that brings the community together,” DeMeo said. “This is another way that we get to meet each other and communicate with each other.”

DeMeo believes the event will highlight the Del Rey community and some of its artistic residents.

“Maybe this Del Rey Art Walk will be another one of those positive things that will take root here in this community,” said DeMeo, whose home studio is featured on the tour.

“That is what makes Del Rey so unique – a quiet neighborhood that most people don’t know about and hasn’t been really recognized as ‘the Del Rey community’ until the last few years.”

Event organizers are hoping that the Del Rey Art Walk will become an annual community event.

The event is sponsored by the Del Rey Homeowners and Neighbors Association and Del Rey Neighborhood Council.
