The city of Santa Monica’s Human Services Division is pleased to announce the launch of a new “youth violence prevention” portal on the city’s website. The site, provides a central location for information about steps being taken to prevent youth violence in Santa Monica.

Through the collaborative work between the city of Santa Monica, education and non-profit agencies, neighborhood organizations, governmental partners, business and faith communities, the community strives to keep youth safe and support healthy development from infancy through adulthood, said a Human Services Division spokeswoman.

Santa Monica Human Services Manager Julie Rusk sees the site as a critical component in youth violence prevention efforts. “We’re very excited about and envision it as an important tool for sharing with the public the current work of the Youth Resource Team and ways the community can get involved,” Rusk said.

Recently, the City Council directed that the Youth Resource Team (YRT) be strengthened and a new policy group convened to be sure Santa Monica’s initiatives are on track, in line with best practices nationally, well communicated and evaluated.

Initially, the portal will provide details on upcoming youth team meetings and information relevant to the efforts in youth violence prevention in Santa Monica.
