The Santa Monica Pier Restoration Corporation has appointed a new interim board of directors to oversee the day-to-day operation of the world-famous Santa Monica Pier.

The new board officers named include chair Judy Abdo, a former city mayor; vice chair John Catoe; and secretary/treasurer Barbara Stinchfield, the former director of the Community and Cultural Services Department.

The interim board will have the responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the pier, marketing and promoting the attraction, advocating for improvement projects, protecting the pier as an historic resource, and overseeing special events and filming,

In addition, members will assist the City Council with a pier vision and master planning process and the development of new sponsorship, marketing, event and leasing guidelines. At its initial meeting the board agreed to change its name to Santa Monica Pier Corporation to better reflect the current and future role of the company.

“This is a very exciting time for the pier, and the city has assembled a dynamic and diverse group of people with the new board,” said Abdo. “I feel honored to have been a part of the restoration of the pier, and look forward to helping to determine the next chapter in the pier’s rich history,”

Board meetings are scheduled for the first Wednesday of the month and third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
