Former Marina del Rey resident Jean Lally O’Donnell died November 2nd. She was 87.
O’Donnell was born September 6th, 1921 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Helen Mangan Lally and John Peter Lally.
She attended Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Pittsburgh and Rosemont College in Philadelphia.
For 60 years O’Donnell lived in the Marina del Rey and Pacific Palisades areas, where she had made many friends. Most recently, she lived at the Morningside Retirement Center in Fullerton.
O’Donnell had become a “fixture” at the St. John’s hospital gift shop in Santa Monica when she lived in the area, her friends said.
She married and later divorced Dr. Merrill Charles O’Donnell, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her brother John Robert Lally.
O’Donnell is survived by her son James Lally O’Donnell of Clayton, New York and his wife Martha; son John Peter O’Donnell of Marina del Rey; granddaughter Kate O’Donnell of New York City; sister Joan Lally Hillenbrand; and sister-in-law Mitzi Hillenbrand Lally.
Donations may be made in O’Donnell’s name to the American Lung Association or to a charity of choice.
A memorial service for O’Donnell is scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5th, at The Ritz-Carlton, 4375 Admiralty Way, Marina del Rey.
