The 27th Annual Jet to Jetty 5K/10K run/walk benefiting the Airport Marina Counseling Service will be held at Dockweiler State Beach in Playa del Rey Saturday, Aug. 20.

The event also features a kids fun run and 10- or 20-mile family bicycle rides.

Jet to Jetty is the annual fundraiser for the Airport Marina Counseling Service, a nonprofit, community-based clinic that works to provide affordable mental health services and to train mental health professionals. Last year’s event was held along Westchester Parkway.

The Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation is the title sponsor of the race and the William H. Hannon Foundation has donated an eight day/seven night Pleasant Holidays vacation for two to Maui for the special prize drawing.

“We are so pleased that these two important community organizations have been and continue to be supporters of Jet to Jetty and Airport Marina Counseling Service,” said Kathleen O’Leary Lefferman, executive director of AMCS.

Karen Dial, board chair of the Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation, said, “Airport Marina Counseling Service provides a very valuable service to the community and the Drollinger Family Charitable Foundation is proud to be the title sponsor of the Jet to Jetty again this year.”

Leading the race in the official pace car will be this year’s grand marshals, former Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Tim Leary and Geoff Maleman, owner of Maleman Ink Public Relations and a past honorary mayor of Westchester. Leary was a member of the 1988 World Champion Dodger team and won the Comeback Player of the Year award that season.

Race registration will begin at 6:30 a.m. The family bike rides are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by judging for Best Costume. The 5K run/walk and team competition will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the 10K at 8:30 a.m.

Teams are welcome and must have a minimum of five participants. The kids fun run begins at 9:30 a.m.

Fees for the 5K and 10K and bike ride events are $35. The kids fun run fee is $10, while children aged 12 and under ride free in either the 10- or 20-mile family bike ride.

All race participants will receive a free event T-shirt and free after-race refreshments. Balloon hats and face painting will be available for kids of all ages. Hamburgers will be available for purchase from the In-N-Out Burger cookout trailer.

A raffle for the Pleasant Holidays trip to Maui will also be available. The winner of the trip will be announced after the race.

“The race is always a lot of fun and we encourage you to come out and participate either as a runner, walker, cyclist or spectator,” said Polly Garstka, co-chair of the event.

Early registration and packet pickup will be held at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Plaza El Segundo, 770 S. Sepulveda Blvd. in El Segundo, on Friday, August 19 from noon to 7 p.m.
